February 2004 Newsletter IMPORTANT NEW PROGRAMS FROM GRAND LODGE – MUST READ INVITATION TO PETITION The Grand Lodge of Illinois has initiated a trial program called “INVITATION TO PETITION”. They have selected 50 lodges from across the state to participate in this trial program. Further Light Lodge has been selected because we are one of the most active lodges in the state. How does this program work? If you know a man who would make a good Mason, you and two other members of Further Light Lodge, who have known him for two years or more, can fill out the “INVITATION TO PETITION” form and return it to the lodge. With your recommendation this man will be balloted on in two weeks. If he passes the ballot, he is elected to take his degrees. An “INVITATION TO PETITION” form is enclosed with this newsletter. On the back is everything you need to know about the program. If you have any questions or need more petitions, please call the secretary at 217-443-4895. This is an excellent opportunity to offer membership in our lodge to a friend or family member. We are anticipating 50 petitions to be submitted under this program. Help your lodge by being one of them. GRAND MASTER'S FESTIVAL The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge will sponsor a Grand Master's Festival on May 1, 2004 at the Danville Masonic Temple. This will help in membership development. All three degrees will be conferred during a one-day class. This is another excellent opportunity to encourage a friend or family member to join our lodge. You should fill out the “INVITATION TO PETITION”, then inform your candidate as to his options on how he can proceed with his degree work. Remember, he has the following options to complete his degree work: (1) he may proceed the conventional way in which he will study and recite his catechism, (2) he may study and recite his alternate proficiency, (3) he may receive his first degree and obtain his 2º and 3º at a Blue Lightning Initiative, or (4) he may receive all three degrees in one day at the Grand Master's Festival, May 1st. The choice is up to you and your candidate. Candidates may or may not also elect to receive the Scottish Rite and/or Shrine degrees later the same day, but only if they wish. These degrees are, of course totally voluntary and do not affect our lodge or his ancient craft degrees. ![]() December 2003 newsletter
